Weeee I'm heeeere...
I was really..um...busy. Well, sort of. School, and Kosmopolis 08! And internet doesn't work in my room anymore. Kosmopolis is a literature festival, and I had bought a pass for the 5 days, so I was pretty much there all day for 5 days! It was awesome though! I got to see Gao Xingjian give a conference, J.M. Coetzee reading from his new book (this was a catch though...it was only a video of him in July), Jon Lee Anderson (reporter for the New Yorker, Vanity Fair, etc) talk about Iraq, the Nuyorican Poets Café Team (the title link takes you to a video of one of them performing a poem about his mother, I love it! I talked to him and told him to come to Montréal). I also went to a slam workshop given by Fish Vargas, one of the Nuyorican Poets, saw lots of conferences on journalism and new-new-journalism.
And then I saw Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson read Catalan poems translated into English. Which sounds exciting, but was possibly the most boring thing EVER. Lou Reed kept checking how many pages were left in the poems he was reading, Laurie Anderson was in California, reading on satelite camera...meh.
I also saw John Giorno again, first in an interview with a really annoying interviewer asking boring questions, and then reciting a few of his poems. Also a conference on the "future of slam" and an awful slam competition (we left early it was so bad). Donna Leon also gave a talk on Ecologism and literature and Tzvetan Todorov on terrorism.
An amazing film that was showing is Slingshot Hip Hop, about Palestinian Hip Hoppers. It's really really good, inspiring, etc etc etc. See it if you can!
Nothing much has changed here...except for the fact that it's been raining since yesterday and it's really cold in our flat. But it's not snowing HA HA HA!!!! I was still wearing flipflops until yesterday...not looking forward to seeing snow...
Also some of my roommates are crazy. But others are awesome!
School is school, a bit boring, my goal this week is to go to ALL my classes, which hasn't happened since the trimester started! So far so good, but tomorrow I start at nine am...(which is like six really...) Lots of small papers to write every week, but I think my grades are good so far (which doesn't really matter; as long as I pass I get my credits). Orchestra is fun, but sadly the first concert is in January, so I won't be able to play (which doesn't really help with motivation either!)
Here are some pictures of Kosmopolis. I'll put some pictures of my flat and flatmates up later today, I just have to transfer them to my computer (I think my laptop is dying. Seriously...not good...poor thing I haven't been very careful with it).
Ah oui, avant que j'oublie, est-ce que quelqu'un peut m'envoyer une canne de sauce à poutine??? J'ai dit à mes colocs que je leur ferais une poutine...And also I would like The Walrus or Vanity Fair...please? Someone?? Il y a un resto ici qui s'appelle "Què bec?" ('qu'est-ce que je bois' en catalan)...
this is a view of the city seen from the CCCB
(Contemporary Culture Centre of Barcelona,
where the festival was held). It looked a billion times better in real life!
JOHN G!!!
John G again Lou "so bored I might die" Reed
Ok, so more pictures to come!
